I am not normally one to get involved with politics or really spend too much time thinking about what goes on in politics but I feel like ranting so here goes...
my wife and I bought a house this last year and qualified for the 7500 first-time homebuyer tax credit, which neither of us had any idea existed until I filed our taxes. I check a little box on HR block online and my tax refund went up 7500 bucks...I am a mildly pessimistic person so I figured that was probably too good to be true and after a little googling found out that it was...after all the hoopla regarding Obama's stimulus package I started following the progress of it on the internet and I found out that people who purchase a home this year (approximately 5 months after we did) will get an 8k tax credit that they don't have to pay back...lucky them
I also found that the stimulus bill gives income tax refunds to people who are not required to pay income tax...lucky them as well
My wife and I will get the "making work pay" credit which will net us about 40 bucks a month
lucky us...
The stimulus bill is full of special interest spending that benefits no one, I mean 8 billion dollars for a railway from LA to Nevada...there are whores and gambling in LA they just aren't advertised as well, no one needs to go to Vegas for those things, congrats to Senator Reid for get a huge appropriation that will benefit his state
because we have decent jobs (that we worked our asses off to get and keep by taking out a ridiculous amount of student loans and going to college) we are ineligable for a large portion of any kind of tax break..
I am not apposed to paying taxes, I understand the need for some things to be run by the government and that it requires a little bit of my money to help the greater good...I have no problem paying my taxes knowing that some of it goes to our servicemen & women who occasionally get shot at to ensure that I can enjoy the american dream
I have no problem knowing that some of my taxes goes to medical care for those who can't afford it
I have no problem knowing that some of my taxes help fund medical research and energy research
I have no problem with knowing that some of my taxes go to social security for people who are retired and have not had the foresight to save any money for retirement...on that note, the fact that we pay social security benefits to immigrants who have not paid social security their whole lives is somewhat infuriating
anyways back to the stimulus package..the way I understand this thing to work is: Congress is borrowing a boatload of money (from our future tax payments) to start all these projects (that will generate jobs and more tax income) and give money to people who either don't work enough or don't make enough to pay income tax....this is almost criminal..I have been working since I was 14 years old in some form or fashion and have always had to pay some taxes, so the people who aren't making enought income to pay income tax are either don't want to work hard enought to make more money, or just dont give a crap and would rather take a handout...
to end my rant for today I will say this about Mr. Obama... kudos for having the nuts to say something to all those bankers that Bush handed out my money to...half those guys probably ought to go to prison for pulling down the panties of taxpayers that they took money from...those smart sonsofbitches took all that money...unloaded all their bad debt and stopped making loans to anyone unless they have a credit score of perfect...
On that topic...why is that Madoff guy in jail..didn't he admit to 50 billion dollars worth of fraud?...so he is just hanging out in his gazillion dollar apartment and going to make an apology...it's illegal to smoke indoors in most parts of this country, but its ok to defraud people for ridiculous sums of money...
nice... for once it would be nice for congress to quit lining their own pockets on the backs of the everyday american tax-payer and DO something intelligent like figure out how to stimulate the housing market which creates a massive waterfall demand for american products and workers....and facilitates the realization of the american dream of home ownership....
probably never happen.....we will have an express train from LA to Vegas though...yay
